ALLEN, TEXAS— The Allen Eagles and the Denton Guyer Wildcats are arguably two of the best high school football teams in the state of Texas. Allen was unable to play 4 weeks of their season due to a COVID-19 outbreak. When the Eagles returned to the field two weeks ago, although they still came out with wins, they had a tough transition after the outbreak against McKinney Boyd and Little Elm. The Eagles were set to face Denton Guyer in a game that would put the winner in the drivers seat for a district championship. Allen had not lost at home in 52 straight games, and Denton Guyer was looking to be the ones to end the streak. But like the Eagles always have, they held down the fort.

Guyer started with the ball, and quarterback, Eli Stowers, led the Wildcats all the way to the Allen 3-yard line. But they couldn’t get in the end zone, and were forced to settle for a 20 yard field goal.

The Allen offense was electric right from their first possession, as quarterback, General Booty, ran 19 yards to their own 44, and Jordan Johnson ran to the Guyer 28-yard line off of a screen. Johnson then ran 7 yards in the end zone to give Allen a 7-3 lead (PAT good). After a forced Guyer punt, Jaylen Jenkins ran up the middle untouched on the first play of the possession for a 52 yard touchdown (PAT good). Guyer was forced to punt again, and on Allen’s first play of their possession, this time General Booty ran up the middle for a 52 yard touchdown. Eli Stowers converted on 3rd and 1, and the Wildcats made it to the Allen 3-yard line before the quarter ended with Allen on top 21-3.

BJ Phillips picked up right where they had left off in the first quarter, as he ran 4 yards up the middle for a touchdown (PAT good). But Allen answered, as yet again on the first play of their offensive possession, Jordan Johnson ran 82 yards down the sideline for a touchdown, and gave the Eagles a 28-10 lead (PAT good).

After Guyer went for it on 4th and 7 and was unable to convert, Allen took over with great field position from the Guyer 48-yard line. General Booty completed a pass to Yurias Hill, and Jaylen Jenkins ran the ball 17 yard to the Guyer 2-yard line. Jenkins then capped off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run (PAT good). On Allen’s next possession, Jordan Johnson caught a screen pass, and took it 54 yards to the Guyer 20-yard line. General Booty then kept it himself, ran 10 yards into the end zone, and gave Allen a 42-10 lead.

But Guyer found the momentum they needed going into halftime, as Eli Stowers ran up the middle for a 2-yard touchdown. Stowers is currently committed to Texas A&M. Allen went into halftime with a 42-17 lead.

Guyer started the second half off the way they needed to in order to start the comeback. After a forced Allen punt, Deuce Harmon took the punt return 38 yards to the Allen 38-yard line. Harmon is also committed to Texas A&M. Stowers ran the ball to the Allen 1-yard line on 3rd and 3, and BJ Phillips punched it in with a 5 yard touchdown run to cut the score to 42-24 (PAT good). Guyer then had another break, as Allen fumbled on the kickoff, and the Wildcats recovered at the Allen 36-yard line. Stowers ran the ball, and picked up a first down to the Allen 7-yard line. Phillips then ran left, and ran in the end zone for a 7-yard touchdown (PAT good).

Allen found a way to get their rhythm back, as Bryson Green returned the kickoff all the way to the Guyer 34-yard line to give the Eagles excellent field position. Jordan Johnson ran the ball 20 yards to the Guyer 6-yard line, and Jake Wolff capped off the drive with a rushing touchdown to make the score 49-31 (PAT good). After a Guyer punt, Jordan Johnson caught a screen and took it all the way to the Guyer 4-yard line. Wolff ran in the end zone again for a 4-yard touchdown (PAT good). By the end of the third quarter, Allen had a 56-31 lead.

Guyer still wouldn’t go away, as Eli Stowers led the Wildcats all the way to the Allen 10-yard line. Stowers then took it himself, and ran up the middle 13-yards for the score. Allen then fumbled at the Guyer 10-yard line, and the Wildcats recovered. However, the Allen defense held them, and the offense ran out the clock. By the time the clocks hit zero, Allen was on top 56-38.

The Allen Eagles improve to 5-0, and improve their at-home win streak to 53-0. The Eagles take on McKinney next week on Friday, November 20th, at 8 PM ET. Denton Guyer falls to 5-2, and will take on McKinney Boyd next week on Friday, November 20th at 8 PM ET.
