The newest addition to Clemson’s Top 10-ranked recruiting class for the Class of 2023 is three-star athlete, Khalil Barnes.
Barnes is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound athlete from North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia. According to 247sports, he is ranked as the No. 51 athlete in the country, the No. 67 recruit in Georgia, and the No. 687 overall player in the country. Shortly after his commitment, Barnes caught up with me to discuss what went into his decision.
When it came to making a decision, for Barnes, he just got that feeling that it was only right to commit to Clemson.
“Just something special about Clemson,” Barnes said. “It’s amazing.”
A large part of what gave Barnes that feeling towards Clemson was head coach Dabo Swinney. To Barnes, there’s no other coach he’d rather play for.
“He’s the best coach in college football,” Barnes said. “If you wouldn’t play for that guy, you’re crazy.”
Of Clemson’s 25 commits in the Class of 2023, 11 are from Georgia, including Barnes. This gave Barnes an opportunity to have an early bond with many of the commits, especially four-star linebacker commit, Jamal Anderson.
“They’re my guys already,” Barnes said. “We are a special group.”
Overall, Barnes is glad that he finally made a decision, and he found the place that is best for him. The decision lifted “so much weight off my shoulders,” Barnes said.
With Barnes’ commitment, Clemson now holds 25 commitments in the Class of 2023, and according to 247sports, is ranked No. 10 in the recruiting class rankings.
